At the time when the Connecticut Valley was becoming the leading area for the production of fine printing papers, John M. Walker, of Springfield, Massachusetts saw an opportunity for a distributor of these papers in the Hudson Valley area of New York State. In November, 1875, he established a paper warehouse in Albany, New York under the name of Hudson Valley Paper Company. Andrew B. Jones was taken into partnership the following year, and these two gentlemen operated the company as partners until 1908 when they incorporated the company and then served respectively as President and Treasurer until their deaths. The company prospered, and their business philosophy proved to be a sound one, which was to offer the best qualities of paper available, maintain adequate inventories, and instill in the employees a “spirit of service”.

This spirit has been passed on through five generations of the Jones Family as well as through the dedication of the family of employees that comprise Hudson Valley Paper and its history. The Company has continued to prosper because of its commitment to relationships, integrity, service and value.

 

Recent growth has taken the company beyond its traditional Hudson Valley Roots, operating in four other locations as well as establishing a new division, Comtex Technology Products. This division specializes in marketing a variety of technical products, including hardware, software, furniture, magnetic media, paper and other “consumables”. We believe our successful business model and service capabilities supported by motivated people, allow us to bring a dimension to the industry that most companies can’t match.

All of the companies we have acquired have shared similar heritage and similar approach to serving customers. We now all serve the customers under one name, Hudson Valley Paper Company, from our four main locations: Albany, Burlington, Hartford, and Rochester.
